Welcome to our School
Scoil Mhuire na nAingeal or "The Sisters of Charity", as it is known locally, is a primary school located in the centre of Clonmel. While it is primarily a girl’s school, we welcome boys to 1st Class level. The school has a Catholic ethos but does not differentiate between pupils on the basis of their religious beliefs or backgrounds and we welcome children of all faiths.
Today, there are 392 girls and boys in our school and the staff has grown to 27 teachers and 5 SNAs (16 class teachers, 10 Special Education teachers and the Principal).
Ms. Cliodhna Breen is the school's Principal and Mrs. Ann Marie O'Donnell the Deputy Principal. Our hardworking secretary is Penny Carew and our caretaker Francis Pyke.
We are very proud of the traditions in our school. The boys and girls are given every opportunity to partake in a range of curricular and extra- curricular activities. We have a strong sporting tradition especially in Gaelic football, Camogie, Hockey, Athletics, Dancing ,Gymnastics, Swimming, Cycling, Pitch & Putt & Rowing. We have been awarded the flag as an "Active School" .
Music & Drama have always been an integral part of school life, and drama concerts and the Carol Service are major highlights in the school calendar. The girls are also encouraged to get involved in our school band, school choir, quiz teams , art workshops, dance clubs, (Majorettes), Speech & Drama classes and music lessons (recorder, flute, clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, clarinet & trombone). In our school we firmly believe "Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí."
We are particularly proud of our school playgrounds, gardens, glasshouse and astro-turf field which are under the constant care of our Caretaker Frannie and the Green School's Committee. We have been awarded our 7th Green Schools' Flag this year.
Our school welcomes and encourages the co-operation and involvement of parents and guardians in the education of their children and acknowledges the significant benefits of effective partnership between school, home and Board of Management.
